Gocha is from Akhaltsikhe, South Georgia. He is 41 years old, married and lives with his family: his wife, Mzia, their two daughters who are 18 years old, their 17-year-old son and his parents who are retired. In addition to Gocha’s parents’ monthly pensions the only source of income for the family is agriculture. In particular, the family has small dairy farm. They produce various dairy products such as cheese and yoghurt and sell them on the local market. The total average monthly income of the family is 650 Laris.
Gocha requested credit to purchase calves. He reared them for 9 months and sold the grown calves for a higher price. This helped to bring in additional income which was used to improve the family’s living conditions. Elon Microfinance Initiative was proud to support Gocha in 2012 with a $50 loan.
